Lexington Catholic claims USA Classic title; CBHS second

Millington, Tenn. - Lexington Catholic (Ky.) became the first team from outside the state of Tennessee to claim the USA Classic championship in the tournament's fourteen year history. The Knights won a slugfest over ECS 16-11 on Saturday morning and defeated host Christian Brothers 6-5 in the championship.

Trinity (Ky.) claimed third place with a 14-4 victory over ECS.

ECS, CBHS, Lexington Catholic and Trinity advance in USA Classic

Millington, Tenn. -
In winners bracket games, ECS defeated Houston 7-3, and CBHS beat MUS 16-4 to advance to the semifinals. Lexington Catholic and Trinity, each from Kentucky, claimed victories over Riverdale and Collierville, respectively.

In the losers bracket, Olive Branch defeated Henry Clay 5-3, Germantown beat Southport 3-1, Northwest Rankin knocked off Shawnee 12-3, and Hendersonville downed Hardin County 10-7.

Local teams enjoy success in opening round of USA Classic

Millington, Tenn. - Teams from the Memphis area went 5-1 in the first day of the 2006 USA Classic National Invitational on Wednesday at USA Stadium and CBHS. At USA Stadium, Houston started the day off with an 8-1 victory over Henry Clay (Ky.), while Evangelical Christian followed with a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Olive Branch (Miss.). Collierville's Drew Pomeranz dominated Northwest Rankin with a 6-1 win in the nightcap.

At CBHS, MUS downed Hendersonville 7-6, while Christian Brothers shut out Hardin County 11-0. The only local team to fall was Germantown, in 13 innings, to Lexington Catholic (Ky.) 4-3.

In other action, Trinity (Ky.) defeated Shawnee (Okla.) 10-0, and Riverdale defeated Southport (Ind.) 14-1.
