claims second straight title with 8-6 victory over Pensacola Catholic

MILLINGTON,
TENN. - Germantown (16-5) used a three-run sixth inning to break open a
tie game and claim their second consecutive USA Classic title. The Red
Devils shook a rough first two innings of the tournament and bounced back
for wins over MBA, Westminster Christian, and Miami Palmetto en route to
their second ever USA Classic Championship. Senior Chris Matesich was
named tournament MVP.
Houston used back-to-back homeruns by Rawley Bishop and Ryne Porter to
knock off Miami Palmetto 6-2 in the third place game. Houston
improved to 15-4 on the season.

Catholic and Germantown advance to Championship

MILLINGTON,
TENN. - Pensacola Catholic used a seven-run fourth inning to distance
themselves from Houston High School and held on for a 14-12 victory. The
win moves Pensacola Catholic into the championship game against
Germantown. Germantown defeated Miami Palmetto 12-2 to advance to their
their consecutive final. They defeated Westminster Christian to claim the
2002 championship. Catholic seeks to be the first team ever outside the
state of Tennessee to claim the title in the tournament's 11th year.

MILLINGTON,
TENN. - Pensacola Catholic (FL) knocked off Covington (TN) 6-1 to advance
to the semifinals of the USA Classic. They will take on Houston (TN), who
defeated Riverdale (TN) 2-0 and extended its scoreless inning streak to
15. In the other semifinal, Germantown (TN), who outlasted Westminster
Christian (FL) 10-6, will play Miami Palmetto. The Panthers defeated
Father Ryan (TN) 9-6.
In the consolation bracket, McCallie rallied to beat ECS 4-3, while Miami
Senior High knocked off Millington 7-6. Oakland defeated MBA 9-7, and CBHS
downed Cordova 9-8.

Palmetto, Pensacola Catholic and Westminster Christian advance
MILLINGTON,
TENN. - Riverdale HS (TN) blasted Millington HS (TN) in the opening game
of the tournament 16-0 in a run-rule three inning game. Covington rallied
from two runs down after an inning, to score seven unanswered runs and
knock off McCallie 7-2. The Chargers were without a hit until Taylor
Bennett had a base-clearing triple in the top of the sixth to put
Covington ahead to stay.
Houston (TN) needed extra innings, but knocked off Miami (FL) Sr. High 5-0
to advance to play Riverdale. Pensacola Catholic and Westminster
Christian, both from Florida, advanced to the second round. Catholic
defeated ECS (TN) 11-3, while Westminster knocked off Oakland (TN) 4-0.
Germantown scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh to knock off
Montgomery Bell Academy 11-10, while Father Ryan ousted host Christian
Brothers 6-5. Miami Palmetto also advanced with a 9-3 win over
Cordova.
