West knocks off East 19-8 in game two, rallies for tie in game three

MILLINGTON, Tenn - The West All-Stars scored early and often in game two of the NJCAA All-Star Series, claiming a 19-8 victory over the East Saturday at USA Stadium. Matty Johnson had four hits, while Tyler Ladendorf and Doug Kroll each drove in four runs. Kevin McConnell and Allen Caldwell each had two hits for the East.

Trevor Harden earned the win, going three pre-determined innings and allowing just one unearned run. Josh Malin picked up the three-inning save. Nick Franceski took the loss.

The East took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first in game three and held on to it until the bottom of the seventh, when the West rallied for two runs to tie the game at 3-3. The game was ruled a tie after seven innings, as both teams had used up all of their pitching.

Kevin McConnell and Miles Hoyle had two hits each for the East, while Tyler Lundy had three base-knocks for the West.

West downs East 17-12 in NJCAA All-Star Series opener

MILLINGTON, Tenn - The East All-Stars jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the top of the first, but the West All-Stars rallied to take a 10-8 lead through five and never trailed again in route to a 17-12 win in the opening game of the three game series Friday night at USA Stadium. The West got contributions from every spot in the order, as batters in all nine slots scored and drove in runs. Cameron Monger and Matty Johnson led the way with three hits each, while Doug Kroll, Tyler Lundy, and Cody Fick each had two.

Josh Jones and Kevin McConnell each had two hits and drove in two runs for the East.

Tyler Lavigne picked up the win in relief for the West squad; he tossed three innings and allowed two runs on three hits, while striking out five. David Carpenter tossed the final three innings of the game to pick up the save. Scott Rembisz took the loss for the East.

The same two teams will play a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, with the games beginning at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

USA Stadium, Millington chosen to host College Baseball All-Star Series

MILLINGTON, Tenn - The city of Millington will have several new faces in town this weekend, as the city has been awarded the three-game NJCAA College Baseball All-Star Series. The players, representing 27 different states, will arrive in town on Wednesday, June 13, while the games will take place at USA Stadium on Friday, June 15, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 16, at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

In addition to the games, the players will also be out in the community. The team is planning a trip to St. Jude, as well as a meal with the USA Stadium host families at Lighthouse Fellowship Church. They also will be involved in several fan-friendly promotions for the event. After Friday night's game, fans will be allowed onto the field to get autographs; before Saturday's matinee, each little leaguer in uniform will be allowed to take the field at his position with an All-Star during the starting line-ups and national anthem. Saturday night's promotion is a mini-bat giveaway to all children twelve and under.

The series is designed to give first-year collegiate baseball players additional exposure to four-year college and professional scouts. Thursday night, the players will participate in a scout night, where they will be seen by in a major-league-try-out style showcase.

Players featured in the series were nominated by their coaches and then selected by the head coaches of the two All-Star teams. They will be split into two teams that will represent different regions of the NJCAA, an East team and a West team.

Admission cost for the All-Star games Friday and Saturday is $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for students. Little league players in uniform will be admitted free.
