Second Consecutive NJCAA Division II World Series Championship
With the score tied at one each in the
bottom of the fourth, Ryan Kane scored a run for
Tournament MVP Ryan Kane bashed a two-run
double in the bottom of the fifth to give
Kane, Tim Brown, Adam Vrable, and Troy Moratti each had two hits for the Raiders, while Jacob Whisenhunt went 2-for-4 for LBW.
Travis Doyle earned the win with a complete game. He struck out ten and allowed only three runs. Brett Turner took the loss for the Saints.

B. Wallace tops LSU-Eunice 7-6 in 12 innings; advances to finals in NJCAA
Division II World Series
It took twelve innings, but L. B. Wallace hung tough and pulled out a 7-6
victory over LSU-Eunice in a back-and-forth elimination game in the NJCAA
Division II World Series Thursday night at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn. The
win propels the Saints into the championship game at
LSU-Eunice jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, but the Saints battled back to tie it at 1-1 after two innings. The Bengals pushed another run across in the top of the third, but LBW answered with two of their own in the bottom of the inning. LSUE tied it in the top of the fourth, and it remained that way until the top of the seventh.
The Bengals plated single runs in the seventh and eighth and took a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the eighth. A dropped fly ball and wild pitch led to three Saint runs to give them a 6-5 lead after eight.
With their backs to the wall, Eunice came up with a bases loaded walk in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 6-6. However, they had two runners thrown out at home and didn’t score again.
L. B. Wallace finally broke open the tie in the bottom of the twelfth as Jordan Mills single to right with one out. Matthew Miller grounded into a fielder’s choice, but LSUE’s shortstop David Broussard was unable to complete the out. The next batter Ben Woods singled to center scoring Mills for the winning run.
Woods, Mark Wall, and Bryan Mosley each had two hits for LBW, while Broussard reached on 6-of-7 plate appearances, including two hits. Matt Casbon and Ryan Reed each had three hits for LSUE.
Joe Rowe picked up the win in relief for the
Saints. He tossed four innings and allowed four hits and two walks while
striking out five. Kenny Plaisance took the loss in the complete game for LSU-Eunice.
He threw eleven and one-third innings, allowed eleven hits, and struck out
seven. Only four of his seven runs were earned.

Rapids advances to National Championship game in NJCAA Division II World Series
L. B. Wallace (41-16) was unable to overcome
the fourteen runners that they stranded on base. The Saints will now take on LSU-Eunice
Wednesday night at
Lauscher and Tim Brown each had two hits on the night for GRCC, while Jordan Mills led the way for the Saints going 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI. Bryan Mosley had two hits, including a homer, and Jacob Wisenhunt went 2-for-5 for LBW.

knocks out Iowa Central 8-3 in NJCAA Division II World Series
Guzzetta settled down after the first two innings and seemed to get stronger as the game went on. He tossed a complete game allowing only seven hits and a walk while striking out six. He also allowed only one runner past first base after the third inning.
Ryan Reed, Roy Meaders, Dustan Quebodeaux, and Jeremy Triche each recorded two hits for the Bengals. Dan Lyons and Kyle Heatherington had two hits for Iowa Central.
Jordan Nemitz took the loss for Iowa
Central, allowing four runs on three hits in one-third of an inning.

LSU-Eunice
eliminates Elgin 6-3 in 14 innings in NJCAA Division II World Series
LSU-Eunice (50-12) received two outstanding
pitching performances by Blake Duhe and Jared Bourque to lead the Bengals to a
6-3 win over Elgin (Ill.) Community College (41-28) in an elimination game in
the NJCAA Division II World Series Monday night at USA Stadium in
Bourque came in in the ninth to close the game out with LSU-Eunice up 3-1; however, two defensive miscues allowed the Spartans to score two runs and send the game to extra innings. Bourque struck out seven.
LSU-Eunice broke the tie in the top of the fourteenth as David Broussard scored on a wild pitch, before they plated two more insurance runs.
Broussard, Keith Delahoussaye, Roy Meaders, and Toby Jacob each had two hits for the winners. Ryan Wardlow went 3-for-6 in the losing effort.

Iverson leads Iowa Central past Lenoir 3-1 in NJCAA Division II World Series
Although ICC left eleven runners on base, the Tritons took advantage of four Lenoir errors to score two unearned runs to go along with Jim Pitt’s solo homer.
Eric Stein led the way for the Tritons going 3-for-4, while Paul Anderson and Kyle Baran each had two hits. Six different Lancers recorded hits in the game.
Iverson scattered four hits and struck out four in his win. Jacob Allen took the loss for Lenoir although he only allowed one earned run in five and two-thirds.

The big first inning was capped off with a grand slam by Ben Woods, who went 2-for-3 in the game. Jordan Mills also had two hits for the Saints. Eric Hoffmann had two of the three hits for Iowa Central.
Joe Rowe tossed three and two-thirds innings with five strikeouts on Sunday evening but fell one out short of being able to qualify for the win. Mark Presnell threw two and one-third innings of one-hit baseball to pick up the win for L. B. Wallace. Danny Klous only lasted one-third of an inning and took the loss.

shutout to propel
The Bengals plated the first run of the game in the third on a John Slusarz balk. They scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth when Ryan Reed tripled in Matt Casbon, who had also tripled. Reed scored on Roy Meaders RBI single.
Slusarz took the loss for the Pointers. He only allowed three hits and one earned run in six innings but walked five.

Adam Vrable led the offensive attack for the Raiders going 2-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI. Tom Grant picked up the win, going five and one-third innings while allowing four hits and two earned runs. Blake Herring took the loss for Lenoir CC.

NJCAA
Division II World Series kicks off in Millington
The National Junior College
Division Two World Series begins on Saturday, May 29 at 9:00 a.m. at USA Stadium
in Millington. Millington, which has hosted the tournament since its inception
in 1993, will host the World Series for the 12th consecutive year. Eight teams
from eight different states will compete in the double-elimination tournament,
which lasts through next Thursday. The Championship game will be played Thursday
night, June 3, at 7:30 p.m. If the team from the loser’s bracket wins, the
additional game will be played on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday’s
action begins at 9:00 a.m. with the defending champion Grand Rapids Community
College (39-15) from Grand Rapids, Mich., against the Lenoir Community College
Lancers (33-15) from Kinston, N. C. Grand Rapids owns three World Series titles
and an outstanding 17-5 record in Millington. This is LCC’s first appearance
in the World Series.
Saturday’s
12:00 game pits the LSU-Eunice Bengals (48-11) from Eunice, La., against the
Pointers of the University of Connecticut-Avery Point (39-5) from Groton, Conn.
LSU-Eunice is making their first World Series appearance. Connecticut-Avery
Point made the tournament in 1999 but lost their first two games.
At
3:00 p.m., the Mesa Community College Thunderbirds (42-19) from Mesa, Ariz.,
take on the Tritons from Iowa Central Community College (49-12) from Fort Dodge,
Iowa. Mesa is making their first tournament appearance. Iowa Central is making
their fifth straight appearance and seventh overall. The Tritons have finished
second three times.
The
7:30 p.m. game will be the Saints of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College
(41-16) of Andalusia, Ala. against the Elgin Community College Spartans (40-24)
of Elgin, Illinois. Both L. B. Wallace and Elgin are making their first
appearances.
The
tournament will continue Sunday through Thursday, June 3, with four games on
Sunday as well.
