UWF Wins First-Ever GSC Baseball Championship
by Michael Banks, Gulf South Conference

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – For the second straight year, the GSC crowned a first-time champion as a number three seed won the title for the third consecutive season.

West Florida (41-16) ended East Division Champion West Alabama's hopes to bring home a second title in three years as the Argos shutdown the Tigers Wednesday's GSC Tournament Championship Game, 6-1. After three scoreless innings, UWF's bats came alive in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings as the Argonauts plated five of its six runs behind All-Tournament Team selection Peter Antoske's first home run of the season. UWF pitcher and GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player Brett McCullough was dominant on the mound for the second time this week, tossing seven and one thirds innings, scattering six hits with six strikeouts and allowing just one run. Senior first baseman Bo Williams, another All-Tournament Team member, smacked his second home run of the competition in the top of the ninth, putting the proverbial icing on the cake. The Argos first championship in their first finals gives them the GSC's automatic berth in the South Central Regional Tournament, May 17-20.
